#History. The War of Independence, a unique commemoration in Calafat
LAG Calafat organizes, between May 8-10, several activities gathered under the name "GAL Fest Calafat", an event at the first edition that aims to promote tourism in this area of Dolj.
The organizers have also prepared tastings of local cuisine, exhibition stands for local products, and those present will have the opportunity to observe the traditions and folk heritage of the area.
Find below the program of events for the three days. All events will take place in the Civic Center of Calafat.
Sunday, 08.05.2022

- Fair of local producers and partner LAGs 10:00 - 21:00
- Interaction, exchange of good practices: local producers, artists, artisans 12:00 - 13:00
- Presentation of local representative tourist product 13:00 - 14:00
- Presentation of gastronomic products specific to the area, with tasting 11:30 - 13:30
- Receiving the official delegations of the public authorities 15:00 - 15:30
- Round table: “Promoting local heritage and identity” 15:00 - 16:00
- Artistic show - cultural event of traditions and folklore 17:00 - 21.30
Tuesday, 10.05.2022
- Fair of local producers and partner LAGs 09:00 - 15:00
- Tour of tourist and attraction objectives in the territory of the LAG “Calafat” 10:00 - 13:00
- Artistic program - folk ensembles, performers, folk costume 11:00 - 13:00
- Interaction, exchange of good practices: promoters, economic agents, ATU 11:30 - 12:30
- Award ceremony for participants and closing event 15:00 - 16:00
At the same time, in addition to the above program, on this occasion a Reconstitution of the War of Independence was prepared by GAL Calafat and PLIMM Calafat with Dolj County Council as a partner, where Calafat played an important role in the period 1877-1878, being the place where the first cannon volley was fired.
The main objective is to create and promote a representative tourist product by bringing to life the atmosphere of war 1877-1878 and inaugurating a unique event.
Those present at the events will be able to watch the reconstruction of some battle sequences and the creation of a historical atmosphere specific to the era, in order to attract as many tourists in this area. From original uniforms, specific to the commemorated period, to replicas of weapons and weapons of panoply similar to the original historical objects, you will surely have something to see!
