The Băileşti Plain Museum was opened in 1970 when C. Cîşlaru from the Museum of Oltenia - Craiova brought a permanent ethnography exhibition.
In 1975 the permanent exhibition of the history department is finished.
In 1993 the museum received its current name.
The museum presents collections of archeology: ceramics and tools belonging to Salcuta and Coţofenii din Dos cultures, objects from the Geto-Dacian era.
Traditional clothing items specific to the Bailesti Plain, carpets, ceramics, household objects, are also exhibited in the museum.
