"Tineretului" multifunctional sports center, put up for auction. See here how it will look!

The contract for the multifunctional sports centre to be built on the site of the former "Tineretului" Stadium was put out to auction by the Dolj County Council. The deadline for submitting offers is February 6, and the contract is worth around 54 million euros.

Craiova will have the most modern multifunctional sports complex in Romania, which will include an indoor velodrome, set up in accordance with the competition standards of the International Cycling Union, and will have a capacity of over 8,000 people. At the same time, the new sports centre will also have an athletics track for international level competitions, modular playing surfaces, but also an area for concerts and other artistic events. The complex will also feature changing rooms, training and treatment rooms for athletes, shops and parking spaces.

The entire complex, a construction with a basement, ground floor and three floors, will have a total area of over 34,000 square meters and will ensure the necessary conditions for organizing national and international competitions in athletics, cycling, but also volleyball, basketball, handball or tennis field. It will include:

  • A category I velodrome, designed for a speed of 80-85 km/h;
  • An oval running track, 200 meters long, with 6 lanes;
  • A straight track, 60 meters long, with 8 lanes;
  • Areas for events such as high jump, triple jump, pole vault or shot put;
  • Changing rooms for athletes and referees;
  • Conference room;
  • Restaurant;
  • Gym;
  • Tribunes with a total capacity of over 6,000 seats;
  • Playground;
  • A sports museum;
  • Administrative spaces.

The ambitious project comes to complete the sports ensemble in the area where it will be found, joining the Polyvalent Hall (rebuilt and inaugurated in 2012) and the "Ion Oblemenco" Stadium (inaugurated in 2017 and built on the site of the former "Central" Stadium). At the same time, this will put Craiova back on the map of elite sports competitions, as is normal, in a city with such a tradition.
