Night of the Museums, the large-scale cultural event and particularly important for promoting culture in Romania, returns this year, more precisely tomorrow, on May 17, 2025.
In Craiova and Dolj, several cultural institutions open their doors in the evening, to welcome, free of charge, the curious public to know, see and learn new things.
The Oltenia Museum opens all its sections, including the "Amza Pellea" Memorial House
Here's what you can visit on the Night of the Museums in our county:
The Oltenia Museum - History-Archaeology Section (14 Madona Dudu Street): the exhibitions "Rediscover History", "Oltenia Rediviva", "Oltenia Museum Craiova at the Anniversary Clock - an incursion into the history of the institution and its role in preserving collective memory", and "Getic Dava from Săpata, Dolj County" - a look at a fortified Getic settlement, reconstructed through artifacts following recent archaeological research.
The Oltenia Museum - Ethnography Section – Băniei House (16 Matei Basarab Street): the exhibitions "Bread Making", "Rhythms of Life", "Oltenia in Images" - The Regional Photography Salon for High School Students, 13th edition.
Oltenia Museum – Natural Sciences Section (8 Popa Șapcă Street): permanent exhibitions “Physical-geographical conditions and ecosystems of Oltenia”, “Oltenia – Terra Fossilis”, “Our Universe and Solar System”, “Collection of Minerals and Rocks”, “The Forest – Complex Laboratory and Reservoir of Riches”, “Nicolaus Copernicus” Planetarium,
The National Salon of Minerals, Fossils and Gems – an event that has become a tradition in the Romanian cultural landscape, now in its 18th edition.

All the above sections and exhibitions can be visited between 8:00 PM and 12:00 AM, with the last entry being allowed at 11:30 PM.
The Art Museum and the "Constantin Brâncuși" Centre, also open to the public
In addition, the Craiova Art Museum also opens its doors, between 18:00 and 00:00 (last entry at 23:30). Here, in the sumptuous "Jean Mihail" Palace, you can visit the "Constantin Brâncuși" Cabinet, the Romanian Art Gallery and the temporary exhibitions "Cezar Atodiresei. Painting, drawing, object", 2META - "METAREALIA - visual histories and fictions" at the "Constantin Brâncuși" Center. Along with the Art Museum, at this event, there will also be student volunteers from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Craiova.
The Romanian Book and Exile Museum also opens its doors wide on the Night of the Museums
The only museum in the country dedicated to Romanian culture in exile, located in Craiova (4, 24 Ianuarie Street). Here's what you can enjoy on the evening of May 17th in this institution.
Explore the interior and exterior space of the museum, through an incursion into a world that combines art, reading and history with the fascinating life stories of valuable Romanians, who created with a longing for their homeland in their souls. In addition, for the first time, the public will be able to visit the warehouse of the Romanian Book and Exile Museum, where they will have the opportunity to see the monoblock shelves and the efficient storage system for objects that are part of the museum's heritage. The printing press of the Romanian Library in Freiburg, an extremely valuable cultural centre of the Romanian exile, will also be on display.
In the program, from 8:00 p.m., the public is invited to participate in a presentation of the volume "Oglinda Sufletului", signed by Alexandra Petrescu, a volume that will be launched during the day, at the "Alexandru și Aristia Aman" County Library. After the presentation of the volume, the public is invited to participate in a recital offered by the pop-opera vocal group Angels, which includes soloists Iulian Codruț Stănescu and Daniel Petrescu, and throughout the evening, children's films will be shown in the multimedia room, and various engaging games will be available on the interactive panels. The visiting program begins at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 12:00 p.m., with the last entry at 11:30 p.m.
