The universal Brâncuși, celebrated again, on his birthday, in Craiova

The coming weekend awaits us with a new cultural surprise of great proportions: the second edition of the Brâncuși Days in Craiova, a large-scale cultural event that started last year, continues in 2024, with unique events, concerts, debates, exhibitions and more. The Dolj County Council is moving forward, thus, with what it set out to do: to pay tribute to the oltenian Brâncuși, as he really deserves, but also to offer as many people as possible the opportunity to know him better and to approach him in different ways.

So, 148 years since the birth of the great sculptor Constantin Brâncuși will be fulfilled this year, on February 19, and the suite of cultural events will take place between February 17 and 19. The "Constantin Brâncuși" Center, the Art Museum, the Museum of the Book and the Romanian Exile and the "Alexandru și Aristia Aman" County Library are the places where the events will take place, which have as main protagonists famous names such as Grigore Leșe, Mircea Dinescu, Irinel Popescu, Sergiu Corbu Boldor - with the emblem show "Dezleganie", dedicated to Brâncuși - or Doina Lemny, the tireless art historian specializing in the work of the man who made the stone sing.

Brâncuși Days are also an excellent opportunity to look at the art of the present, especially in relation to that of the past. The exhibition of young artists from UNARTE Bucharest, "PAYS SAGE", will be able to be admired on the grounds of the "Constantin Brâncuși" Center starting Saturday afternoon, and you can see the works of students from the "Cornetti" Popular Arts and Crafts School from Saturday from noon, at the Romanian Book and Exile Museum, united under the name "I don't create birds, but flights".

We remind you that our city is the one where Constantin Brâncuși spent four years of his life, during which he was a student of the School of Arts and Crafts, where he began to train and master his unmistakable style. Noticing his talent quickly, Craiova institutions awarded him scholarships to help him study at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest. The Craiova Art Museum owns six works by Brâncuși, this being the second largest collection of Brâncuși works in our country. Moreover, in 2022, the Dolj County Council also inaugurated the "Constantin Brâncuși" Center, an avant-garde space, designed by the architect Dorin Ștefan, which quickly became an effervescent meeting place for arts and people who love them equally.

We invite you to get to know Brâncuși here, at home, in the city that formed him, and let's all walk down the path of his memories, which we are so lucky that he left us as a legacy! Stay up to date with the entire schedule of events on Discover Dolj&Craiova!
