#WalkingThroughCraiova: "Alexandru Buia" Botanical Garden

Now that the weather has started to be more friendly, it's time to get out of our houses and (re) discover our city. We did the same thing and we intend to do it again. This time, we present to you the Botanical Garden "Alexandru Buia" through our eyes and we hope to arouse your interest to visit it yourself.

A little history doesn't hurt! The Botanical Garden from Craiova was established on the initiative and under the guidance of prof. dr. univ. Alexandru Buia in 1952. Basically, it is a scientific, didactic and educational institution, considering the existence of a Faculty of Agronomy in Craiova. The jewel in the city center covers about 12.8 hectares and, since its rehabilitation a few years ago, has begun to be a major attraction among the green spaces in the city.

This is easy to understand, given the rich vegetation that makes you feel like you are not in the city. Moreover, you can see animals in the habitat they are used to: squirrels, ducks, swans or other creatures that have made their second home here.

The garden is divided into seven sectors, a museum and a herbarium. The garden has been made to look exactly as it deserves and to impose the respect that such a place has every right to demand. It is not only a place for walking or jogging - inside there is also a tartan track for this purpose - but also one where the visitor can study and read about the different species existing here, being urged to understand its own impact on the environment.

Among the trees and flowers, gazebos, bridges, statues and alleys you can find here a quiet afternoon, a cool evening or an energizing morning, why not, when running. The specially designed track is full of joggers, and the garden is generally full of people eager for fresh air, greenery and another way to spend their free time, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, even in its bosom.

We are sure that a visit through the Botanical Garden will please you, as it does for us every time. Remember, however, that this is not a park like any other; that's why the "don't step on the grass" signs shouldn't scare you. They are placed knowingly so as to protect the plants that need to grow here.

Inside the Botany you will also meet works of art. They were placed here as a result of the vision of the artists who participate, annually, in the International Symposium "Constantin Brâncuși", so that you can study closely the works bequeathed to Craiova.

Don't forget to protect the nature and take care of it with each visit you make. It is the supreme sign of respect we can show to such a beautiful place!
