Village Museum Night, also in Dolj. What we see in the evening, on August 29
The fourth edition of the Village Museum Night event takes place nationwide on August 29, and Dolj could not be missing from the map of locations, with two objectives that we care about very much. The Izvoranu-Geblescu and Cernăteștilor towers will shine, once again, this time under the protection of the night and of all the people who will come to visit them.
“In a single night, hundreds of gates open in Romanian villages. Not large museums, with display cases and guards — but a room in an old house, a mill that still grinds, a blacksmith shop, a wooden church with a low door. They are kept open by people who don’t sleep that night: teachers, priests, craftsmen, grandchildren who inherited a house and didn’t want to sell it. They are the museum”, say the event organizers, and they are very right!
On August 29, starting at 7:00 PM and until late at night, our towers in Brabova and Cernătești open to everyone, free of charge, for a special knowledge, in a special context. Once abandoned and without people to cross their threshold and enjoy them, the Dolj towers have regained their well-deserved shine with the investments made by the Dolj County Council, in restoring, consolidating and transforming them into museum points. Who would have imagined, 15 years ago, that we would be able to visit and learn about our history and that we would be proud to present it to others?
We invite you to join us in the evening, on August 29, to enjoy the testimonies of local history, in a unique interactive experience. It combines the past with the present, boyar rooms with furniture and period chests over 200 years old, folk costumes, authentic fabrics and ethnographic treasures, documents and old photographs with boyars and peasants. Only in this way, by understanding how those before us lived, worked and defended themselves, will we be able to pass on these history lessons that are not taught in classrooms, but at the grass roots, in the Dolj village.
