Romances and vintage perfume. The "Ioana Radu" festival, in its 9th edition

The citizens of Craiova and beyond are invited to take part, on November 15, in a feast of romances, traditional party music, songs from the interwar period and tangos, which will take place on the occasion of the 9th edition of the National Festival "Ioana Radu". Organized by the Dolj County Center for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture, with the support of the Dolj County Council, it will take place at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The audience will be able to enjoy, accompanied by the Marian Alexandru Orchestra, the voices of Ion Amititeloaie, Rodica Anghelescu, Zorina Bălan, Ioana Cristea, Constantin Florescu, Cristina Gheorghiu and Gabriel Alexandru Ionescu, Ion Ghițulescu, Casandra Maria Hauși and Sorin Romanescu, Miruna Ionescu and Taraful Valentin Albeșteanu, Constantin Lătărețu and his taraf, Matilda Pascal – Cojocărița and Ștefan Cigu.

For those who don't know, Ioana Radu was a Romanian singer of popular music and romances. She was the sister of the singer Mia Braia and the second female motorcyclist from Romania. Under her real name, Eugenia (Jana) Braia, she grew up in Craiova, where the artist's family was settled. From the fiddlers of his father's pub, Constantin Braia ("La ieftenirea traiuului") - Ion al lui Țache, Gheorghe al lui Gâgă, Limba - collects and learns his first folk and fiddle songs. Later, he studies at the "Elena Cuza" High School in Craiova, where the music teacher, Elena Simionescu, cultivates his love for the violin song and especially for romance.

"Joining the gallery of great values, Ioana Radu is one of them, she is the one who was retained and accepted by the people of the time but also by those of today as being the most valuable interpreter of romance, a genre close to the traditional doina but also very difficult to express, few artists having the courage to approach such a repertoire. The privilege of having such an artist materialized in 1998 when the institution of the Dolj County Center for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture, the one that still implements the project today, initiated the "Ioana Radu" National Festival, a festival that would show off to the loving public of the kind of artists consecrated in the service of romance and the Great Lady Ioana Radu, every two years, alternately with the "Maria Tănase" National Festival", explained Amelia Etegan, manager of CJCPCT Dolj.

The festival is presented by Miruna Ionescu, and the director of the festival is Amelia Etegan, manager of the Dolj County Center for the Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture.

The scenography of the event is made by Lia Dogaru, and the TV director is Laura Constantinescu.

Tickets can be found at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater Agency, from Monday to Friday, between 11:00 and 19:00, and on Saturday and Sunday between 12:00 and 19:00. The price of a ticket is 70 lei/person.
