The "Elena Farago" Memorial House, reopened to the public! Find out when you can visit it
The "Elena Farago" Memorial House, where the poet lived and created during her long stay in Craiova, will be reopened to the public at the beginning of next week. Thus, from Monday, June 8, 2026, the people of Craiova and those who visit us can once again enjoy the magical universe of the poet who made Craiova her home, and our childhood a magical and unprecedented universe.
The restoration interventions took place over a period of about two years and included several series of works. The furniture that belonged to the poet was restored, and the building was also equipped with new furniture and equipment that will make the new museum a digital hub. In addition to the house that belonged to the poet, two other buildings of the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library were included in the hub space and benefited from works and facilities through this project.
Also, as passers-by can already notice, the courtyard was modernized, decorated with urban furniture and social spaces, for as much interactivity and contact with the public as possible.
With its inauguration, the "Elena Farago" Memorial House will be officially introduced into the tourist and historical circuit of the county, along with other objectives such as Cernăteștilor and Izvoranu-Geblescu towers, the "Amza Pellea" Memorial House or the future "Alexandru Macedonski" Memorial House in Goiești commune.
About the Elena Farago Memorial House
The poet Elena Farago lived in this building from her appointment as director of the „Alexandru and Aristia Aman” Foundation on September 1, 1921, until her death in January 1954. Due to the nature of the events organized or hosted, the current memorial house in the past had the allure of a true cultural salon, a meeting place for people of letters.
The „Elena Farago” Memorial House hosts a permanent exhibition that includes 396 exhibits: pieces of furniture, personal objects, books and magazines, but also hundreds of original documents, photocopies, family photographs and correspondence. It is visited annually by thousands of children and young people, as well as people interested in Elena Farago's work and activity.
