
The International Festival "Alexandru Macedonski", a tribute to the writer from Craiova in the heart of the city
The 7th edition of the International Festival "Alexandru Macedonski" will take place from May 22 to 24 in Craiova and aims to pay tribute to the poet from Craiova this year as well. The event will bring to the public discussions about his works, performances, exhibitions, recitals, as well as presentations and communications about the life and influence of his work in Romanian literature.
Over 50 communications will be made by important men of letters, about the contribution of the writer, who not only marked Romanian poetry, but was also an important playwright, publicist and prose writer.
Here is the list of papers that will later be published in volume VII of the Macedonian Notebooks, to be launched in Craiova on November 24, 2025, the anniversary of Alexandru Macedonski's death, and in Bucharest at the "Gaudeamus" Book Fair.
Moreover, Craiova residents who want to learn more about Alexandru Macedonski will also be able to enjoy a performance of Macedonian music and poetry at the Summer Theater in the "Nicolae Romanescu" Park on Friday, May 23, starting at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free, and the artists who will sing and recite Macedonski are Dorel Vișan, DucuBertzi& Friends, Zoia Alecu, Adrian Păduraru, Oana Marcu, Camelia Varga, Cristina Neacșu and Ilie Gherghu.
In addition, the festival days will also bring visits to Craiova's museums, poetry and music in our beautiful Botanical Garden, as well as book launches.
Don't forget! The "Alexandru Macedonski" Memorial House in the Dolj commune of Goiești, the village of Popeasa, where the father of Romanian symbolism spent a large part of his childhood, will be saved, restored and transformed into a museum, thanks to the efforts of the Dolj County Council. This project will join the suite of buildings of county and national importance, taken over by the Dolj County Council, restored and returned to the communities they belong to:Izvoranu-Geblescu Tower (Brabova), Cernăteștilor Tower (Cernătești) and the "Amza Pellea" Memorial House, in the municipality of Băilești.
In fact, the villages of Goiești from Macedonski's childhood were also a source of inspiration for the writer.
The "Alexandru Macedonski" International Festival has the writer Ion Munteanu as its executive director and is organized by the Dolj County Council, in partnership with the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library, the Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile, the Craiova Art Museum & the "Constantin Brâncuși" Center and the "Colibri" Children and Youth Theater.
